Lisa Ann Dunger of Scott City, beloved by many, passed Saturday, Sept. 5, 2020, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau from her temporary earthly home to her eternal home in heaven, where she met her Savior, Jesus Christ, face to face.
She was born Sept. 23, 1941, in Cape Girardeau to Oliver and Kathryn Loida. On March 14, 1960, she married Larry E. Dunger at Centenary United Methodist Church in Cape Girardeau. This union included as a central part their faith in Jesus Christ, who shared their life together. Lisa and Larry loved each other unconditionally until the completion of their vows, "until death do us part."
Lisa was a stay-at-home mother after the birth of their children, Andrea and Mark. After the children left home, she developed a passion for bowling and spent many years bowling in a league in Cape Girardeau and going to many state bowling tournaments with the bowling girls.
When her health no longer allowed her to bowl, she concentrated on the needs of her local church, Broadway United Methodist Church in Scott City. She had always been an active participant in the church activities, but felt a need to start a monthly church newsletter so all the church members and former members could be informed of the church events.
In her planning for the newsletter, she determined a church directory of the membership with contact information would be of great help to the membership. She compiled and had printed a directory, which was made available to all of the attendees of the church.
Lisa was an active follower of her Lord, Jesus Christ.
Surviving are her husband of 60-plus years, Larry E. Dunger of Scott City; daughter, Andrea R. Dunger of Cape Girardeau; son, Mark S. Dunger and wife, Kerry, and grandson James of Frontenac, Missouri; sister, Olivia Kay Carroll of Mira Mesa, California; sister-in-law, Estella Barron, and her daughter, Marsha Haskell, and husband, Dale, of Cape Girardeau; brother-in-law, Henry A. Dunger and wife, Mary, of St. Louis, and their daughters, Rebecca Peak and husband Clayton of Fulton, Missouri, and Jennifer Cordia and husband Tim, and children Jake, Jace and Johnhenry of Sedalia, Missouri; sister-in-law, Sandra L. Cruse and husband Larry, and their daughters Laura Saunders and husband Alan, and son August, and Sarah Emery and husband Jay, all of Carmi, Illinois; along with many cousins and their families.
She was preceded by her parents, Oliver and Kathryn Loida; brother, Kenneth Loida; brother-in-law, Errol Carroll; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Henry and Valeria Dunger; brother-in-law, Hugh Barron; grandparents; and aunts and uncles from both families. A special pair of aunts deserves mentioning, Genevieve and Isabelle Loida. Also preceding her were many, many friends and fellow believers, all of whom are celebrating their reunion.
Her passing leaves an empty place in her loved ones' hearts, but joy that she is now new and whole with no suffering or pain.
