Lisa Maria Bohnert, 87, of Cape Girardeau died Thursday, July 23, 2015, at Ratliff Care Center.
She was born Jan. 19, 1928, in Flensburg, Germany, to Wilhelm and Kate Pinn Henschel. She and Norbert August Bohnert were married Nov. 25, 1948, at Wiesbaden, Germany, and moved to Cape Girardeau afterward.
Lisa worked at Lowenbaum Dress Factory 15 years, Ralph Edwards Sportswear 10 years and Tri-Con 10 years. She was a member of St. Mary Cathedral and St. Ann sodality.
Lisa's passion in life was serving others and could be seen in her more than 15 years of volunteer work at the Cape Girardeau Senior Center. Immigrating from Germany after the end of World War II, her proudest achievement was becoming a citizen of the United States. Lisa's greatest gift in life was her ability to make friends. Truly, she knew no stranger. Her time on Earth was an inspiration to others, and one could easily find the love of God in the breadth of her smile or the warmth of her eyes. She was a faithful wife, supporting mother, and nurturing grandma. While she may have left this Earth, her love for life and passion for service will be felt for many years to come.
Survivors include her husband, Norbert Bohnert of Cape Girardeau; sons, Gerald "Jerry" (Kim) Bohnert of Memphis, Tennessee, Ron (Vivian) Bohnert of Cape Girardeau and Steve (Debbie) Bohnert of Pacific, Missouri; daughters, Tammy (Kenny) Roberts and Pam (Jim) Thompson of Cape Girardeau; 13 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, three sisters and one great-granddaughter.
Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funera Home in Cape Girardeau. Parish prayers will be at 7 p.m.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary Cathedral in Cape Girardeau, with the Rev. Allan Saunders officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.
