BENTON, Mo. -- Lillian Dempster Scherer, 78, of Benton died Thursday, Jan. 12, 2006, at Sikeston Convalescent Center.
She was born Oct. 3, 1927, in Diehlstadt, Mo., daughter of Edwin R. and Mary Arlene Wills Dempster. She was a graduate of Diehlstadt High School. She and Sylvester "Bud" Scherer were married Feb. 10, 1948. He preceded her in death Dec. 22, 1976.
Mrs. Scherer was a deputy in Scott County 35 years, having been commissioned by Sheriff John Dennis and Sheriff Bill Ferrell before retiring in 1990.
She was a member of St. Denis Catholic Church.
Survivors include four daughters, Margaret Uhrhan of Henderson, Nev., Brenda (Bud) Schiwitz and Janet Burger of Benton, Sandra (Tom) Beck of Southaven, Miss.; a sister, Beulah (Raymond) Leible of Sikeston, Mo.; six granddaughters; and three great-granddaughters.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, and three brothers.
Friends may call at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Benton from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday. Parish prayers will be at 6.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Denis Church, celebrated by the Rev. Normand Varone. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
