Roy Lewis McNeely, 87, of Jackson went to be with his Lord Thursday, Aug. 29, 2024, at his home, surrounded by his family.
He was born Oct. 3, 1936, to Guy and Estle Hawkins McNeely. He and Shirley Faye Pierce were married June 9, 1956.
Lewis retired from Lone Star Cement (now known as Buzzi Unicem). Lewis was a cattleman, farmer and horseman who loved his farm, cattle and horses.
He was a member of Cape County Cowboy Church and was a founding member of the Leadership Team. He was a former board member of Nell Holcomb School and member of Egypt Mills Tractor Club, Tennessee Walking Horse Association and Jackson Trail Riders.
Lewis is survived by his wife, Shirley McNeely, of the home; daughter, Roberta (Jerry) Legrand; two sons, Doug (Carmen) McNeely and Daryl (Nancy) McNeely, all of Jackson.
Lewis was one of 12 siblings. Fern Tripp of High Ridge survives.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, George, Lloyd, Lester, Ray, Dean and Russell McNeely, and sisters, Carrie Darter, Juanita Schwab, Marie Bollinger and Hannah Farrow.
Lewis loved his grandchildren, Michelle Stewart (Jared Dewrock), Tyler G. (Nikki) McNeely, Leslie (Clay) Schermann, Drue McNeely, Lyndsay (Seth) Maze, Whitney (J.T.) Payne, Ty Legrand (Rachel Baker) and Lauren (A.H.) Marshall.
Great-grandchildren include Tucker Stewart, Kylie, Aspen and Oaklyn Dewrock; Abigail, Legend and Reece Marshall; Honey Bailey and Noah Shaw; Camden, Easton and Gatlin Payne; Jayla Smith, Titus and Tatum McNeely; Madalyn Smith (Jacob Norville) and Josie McNeely; Sloane and Lettie Kate Schermann; and Asher and Amelia Maze; and great- great- grandchild, Eliyah Norville.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 1, at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.
Funeral will follow at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 1, at the funeral home, with Brother Jim Matthews officiating. Burial will be at Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.
Memorial contributions may be given to Cape County Cowboy Church, Siteman Cancer Center of St. Louis or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
