Levi Arden Woods Jr., 68, of Scott City died Thursday, Oct. 1, 2015, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Oct. 20, 1946, in Fornfelt to Levi Arden and Pauline B. McCormick Woods Sr. He married Shirley Jameson.
He served in the U. S. Army during Vietnam, the 65th engineering battalion and the 25th Infantry division at Cu Chi. After retiring, he became active in the VFW at both the post and district level. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 6407, served as post commander and as District 15 commander, was a charter member and lifetime member of Cootie Pup Tent 15, American Legion 369 and DAV. At both post and district levels, he always worked to help veterans.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley, of Grandin, Missouri; a son, Michael (Judy) Woods of Scott City; a daughter, Sherry (Tom) Westbrook of Ballwin, Missouri; a sister, Paula Woods of Scott City; and four grandchildren, Autumn and Alivia Woods and Ashley and Josh Westbrook.
He was preceded in death by a brother.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until time of service Monday at Amick-Burnett Chapel in Scott City.
The funeral service will be at 12:30 p.m. Monday at the chapel, with the Rev. Phil Thompson officiating. Burial will be in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery at Bloomfield, with full military honors.
