Letha R. Abernathy, 93, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2018, at her home near Oriole. She was born Aug. 31, 1925, in Cape Girardeau to Everett and Ruby Cummings Edmonds. She and William H. Letha R. Abernathy, 93, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2018, at her home near Oriole.

She was born Aug. 31, 1925, in Cape Girardeau to Everett and Ruby Cummings Edmonds. She and William H. "Jerome" Abernathy were married July 19, 1947. They had been married 59 years, when Jerome passed away Oct. 31, 2006.

Letha was a graduate of Cape Girardeau Central High School. She was a homemaker and especially enjoyed gardening, canning and maintaining her yard. She was of the Assembly of God faith.

Loving survivors include two children, Gary (Kaye) Abernathy of Oriole and Sue (Charles) Thiele of Wright City, Missouri; two grandchildren, Chris (Angel) Thiele of Wright City and Lori (David) Luckett of Wentzville, Missouri; four stepgrandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Nadine Hollingsworth of Old Monroe, Missouri, and Erma Turley of Chaffee, Missouri; and her canine companion, Jake the Wonder Dog, who provided much comfort to her.

She was preceded in death by her husband, three brothers and three sisters.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Donny Ford officiating. Burial will follow at Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to Crown Hospice.
