BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. -- Lester "Polly" Marchildon, 91, of Cairo, Ill., died Friday, March 8, 1996, at the Bethesda Memorial Hospital in Boynton Beach, Fla.
He was born Nov. 19, 1904, in St. Louis, son of the late Holly and Emma Rosier Marchildon.
He was an administrator for the Illinois Department of Public Aid before his retirement. He was an Illinois licensed embalmer and funeral director and had recently received his 50-year licensee award from the Illinois Funeral Directors Association. He was associated with the former Marchildon Funeral Home in Thebes and the Berbling Funeral Home in Cairo and served on the staff of Barkett Funeral Homes until retirement.
Marchildon was a member of St. Patricks Catholic Church in Cairo and a fourth-degree member of Cairo Knights of Columbus Council 1027.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia Marchildon of Cairo; two daughters: Carol Ann Harvell of Boynton Beach, Fla., and Charlotte Jackson of Pompano Beach, Fla.; a son, the Rev. Deacon Donald W. Marchildon of Athens, Ga.; a sister, Virginia Long of Cairo; a brother, Holly Marchildon of Cape Girardeau; 14 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and numerous other relatives.
Visitation will be at Barkett Funeral Home in Cairo after 5 p.m. Wednesday. The Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral chapel. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Patrick' Catholic Church with the Rev. Jerome Fortenberry officiating. Interment will follow in the Thebes Cemetery.
