MOUNDS, Ill. -- Lester Harry "Sox" Grandstaff, 85, of Mounds died Tuesday, Dec. 28, 1999, at Daystar Care Center in Cairo.
He was born June 25, 1914, in Mounds, son of Charles Harry and Golda Pearl Kennedy Grandstaff.
He had served 12 years as a captain in the National Guard, was a 50-year member of the Cairo Elks Lodge 651, was a retired district sales manager from E.L. Bruce Lumber Co. in Cairo, with 35 years of service, and was a former school bus driver with the Meridian School District in Mounds. He was also a member of Congregational Church in Mounds.
Survivors include his wife, Kathleen "Kitty" Corzine Grandstaff; a son Dr. Harvey Grandstaff of Pensacola, Fla.; a sister, Catherine Wyman of Grenada, Miss.; and two grandsons.
He was preceded in death by a brother.
Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. today at Jones Funeral Home in Villa Ridge. An Elks service will be given at 7 p.m.
Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. F.M. Speakman officiating.
Burial will be in Green Lawn Memorial Gardens in Villa Ridge.
