ORAN, Mo. -- Leroy J. Mier, 88, of Oran died Friday, April 8, 2011, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau. He was born Jan. 18, 1923, in Oran, son of Ben Joseph and Ludwina Catherine Westrich Mier. Leroy was a retired farmer. He was a member of Guardian Angel Catholic Church in Oran, Knights of Columbus 4311, Chaffee VFW Post 3127, American Legion Post 389 and a volunteer at Southeast Hospital and Cherokee Ridge Girl Scout Camp...

ORAN, Mo. -- Leroy J. Mier, 88, of Oran died Friday, April 8, 2011, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Jan. 18, 1923, in Oran, son of Ben Joseph and Ludwina Catherine Westrich Mier.

Leroy was a retired farmer. He was a member of Guardian Angel Catholic Church in Oran, Knights of Columbus 4311, Chaffee VFW Post 3127, American Legion Post 389 and a volunteer at Southeast Hospital and Cherokee Ridge Girl Scout Camp.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.

Survivors include three sons, Stephen Mier of Jackson, Chris (Malissa) Mier of Scott City, Tony Mier of Burfordville; a daughter, Susie (Barry) McBride of Vanduser, Mo.; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, two daughters, a brother and four sisters.

Visitation will be after 4 p.m. Sunday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Oran. Parish prayers will be at 7, followed by KC prayers at 7:15.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Guardian Angel Church, with the Rev. Randy Tochtrop officiating. Burial will be in Guardian Angel Cemetery with full graveside rites by Missouri Military Honors.
