JACKSON -- Leopold Hofstatter, 97, of St. Louis died Friday, Dec. 3, 1999, at the home of a niece in Jackson, where he was residing.
He was born March 11, 1902, in Vienna, Austria. He and Theresa Adams Mayer were married in 1971 in St. Louis. She died in April 1998.
Hofstatter received his medical training in Austria, moving to the United States in the 1930s. A retired psychiatrist, he was superintendent at St. Louis State Hospital 26 years, and served on the staff at Washington University.
Survivors include a niece, Julie Combs of Jackson.
His body was donated to Washington University School of Medicine.
A memorial service will be held at a later date in St. Louis.
Ford and Sons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
