Leonard "Len" Morton Swan, 75, of Jackson passed away Monday, Nov. 2, 2020, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born March 30, 1945, in Cape Girardeau to Leonard "Lefty" and Louise Morton Swan. He married Gaye Williams on Jan. 28, 1967, at First Baptist Church in Jackson.

Len was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Jackson. He was a graduate of Jackson High School and attended Southeast Missouri State University. He was also a graduate of the Graduate School of Banking in Madison, Wisconsin, and the National Commercial Lending Graduate School in Norman, Oklahoma.

He proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Air Force, receiving an honorable discharge in 1969.

Upon discharge from the Air Force, Len began his career at Ford Motor Credit. He then joined Cape County/Capital Bank, where he would go on to work for 15 years. For the last 27 years, Len was a sales representative with Old American Insurance Company.

Len was a member of the American Legion. His past memberships include Jackson Chamber of Commerce (president), Jackson Rotary Club (president), Jackson Jaycees (president), Saint Francis Mental Health Foundation (president), Jackson Retail Merchants Association (president), Cape Girardeau County Mental Health Board (treasurer) and Jackson Industrial Committee. He received the Jaycee Ambassador Award and JCI Senatorship and was also a Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary International. Len received numerous distinguished service awards from Old American Insurance and served on the President's Cabinet.

Len enjoyed travel and playing golf. He was an avid sports fan who never missed an opportunity to view his Missouri Tigers, St. Louis Cardinals, St. Louis Blues or a PGA event. He also never missed an opportunity to spend time with family, especially his beloved grandsons, Brendan and Collin.

Loving survivors include his wife of 53 years, Gaye Swan of Jackson; daughter, Gaye Lynn (Col. Ronald L., USAF Ret.) Henry of Clarkson Valley, Missouri; grandsons, Brendan T. Henry of College Station, Texas, and Collin R. Henry of Clarkson Valley; brother, Nelson (Carol) Swan; brother-in-law, Howard Lewis; brother-in-law, G. Kirk Williams; nephew, Brent (Beth) Lewis; niece, Emily (Eric) Vogelweid; nephew, Chris (Loy) Buchheit; and great-nieces Elsie and Ensley Vogelweid.

Len was preceded in death by his parents; father- and mother-in-law, Glenn and Mildred Williams; a sister, Ellen Lewis; sister-in-law, Marybeth Williams; and a great-nephew, Theodore Vogelweid.

A private visitation and funeral service will be held Thursday morning at First Presbyterian Church in Jackson. Dr. Grant F.C. Gillard of Holden, Missouri, will officiate. Following the service, interment with military honors will take place at Russell Heights Cemetery.
