MOREHOUSE -- Leonard Melvin "Slim" Rodgers, 77, a lifelong resident of Morehouse, died Thursday Aug. 19, 1999, at his home.
Born Jan. 27, 1922, in Morley, he was the son of Dennis and Opal Disbennett Rodgers.
He was married to Virginia Sloan in Piggott, Ark. She died Sept. 30, 1977.
Cpl. Rodgers served in the U.S. Army and fought in World War II.
He worked at Himmelberger-Harrison as a mill worker and later served 17 years as a city marshall for Morehouse.
He is survived by one step-son, Bill Sloan of Sikeston and four sisters, Bonnie Miller of Sikeston, Pauline Crook of Memphis, Sue Parkman of Loves Park, Ill. and Margaret Melton of Baton Rouge, La.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 tonight at the Blanchard Funeral Chapel in Sikeston. Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the chapel with Mitchell Jackson officiating. Burial will follow at the Old Morley Cemetery in Morley.
