Leonard C. Hoffmeister, 91, of Jackson passed away peacefully Sunday, Jan. 6, 2013, at Chateau Girardeau in Cape Girardeau, surrounded by his family.
He was born Aug. 22, 1921, in Cape Girardeau, son of Alvin J. and Bertha Siebert Hoffmeister. He and Irene Vehlewald were married 44 years before she preceded him in death in 1994. He and Joy Ann Cronan were married May 15, 1998.
Leonard was inducted into the United States Army on Aug. 29, 1942, and was honorably discharged Dec. 29, 1942.
He was a dedicated employee at General Motors Co. in St. Louis many years. After his retirement he moved to Lake of the Ozarks, Mo., and then to Jackson in 1995. He was a member of Jackson Elks Lodge 2652 and St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson. Leonard had many friends and was a joy to be around. He never met a stranger, and if you knew him, you loved him.
Loving survivors include his wife, Joy of Jackson; a brother, Bill (Julia) Hoffmeister of Cape Girardeau; and a sister, JoAnn Emmons of Cape Girardeau. He was blessed with two daughters, Deanna (Scott) Henderson of Jackson and Jennifer (Johnny) Mosier of Kelso, Mo.; and three granddaughters, Kacey Moore, Hannah Moore and Suzanne Mosier.
In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Ervin Hoffmeister, and a sister, Dorothy Emmons.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the chapel of McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson. An American Legion service will be at 5 p.m.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Robert Henrichs officiating. Interment will be in Cape County Memorial Park in Cape Girardeau.
Memorials are suggested to St. Paul Lutheran Church or Saxony Lutheran High School.
