Leonard Dunning Jr., 84, of Delta died Monday, Sept. 26, 2011, at Chaffee Nursing Center in Chaffee, Mo.
He was born Dec. 9, 1926, in Dupo, Ill., to Leonard A. and Lucille Williams Dunning Sr. He and Betty Jo Gilder were married May 22, 1948, at Delta. She died May 29, 2009.
Dunning was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
He was employed by the Missouri State Highway Department, retiring in 1991. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Delta.
Survivors include three daughters, Cindy Jo (Dallis) Ladd and Linda Gail (Michael) Hornbuckle of Delta, Nancy Ann ((John) Simminger of Cape Girardeau; a son, Greg (Sandy) Dunning of Delta; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and an infant son.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at First Baptist Church in Delta.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the church, with the Rev. Eric Hodges officiating. Burial will be at 1 p.m. today in Missouri State Veterans Cemetery at Bloomfield, with full military honors by Missouri Honors Team.
