ANNA, Ill. -- Leonard Choate, 94, of Anna died Tuesday, March 23, 1999, at his home.
He was born Feb. 26, 1905, in Union County, son of Charles G. and Rosa Houston Choate. He and Gladys Cerney were married Aug. 9, 1930.
Choate was a member of Operating Engineers Local 318, Anna Masonic Lodge 520 AF&AM, and attended Anna United Methodist Church. He served in the U.S. Navy.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Emma Bennett of Anna, Agnes Colley of Brighton, Mich., JoAnne Shanks of Santa Fe, N.M.; a son, Dale Choate of Metropolis; a brother, Lloyd Choate of Cape Girardeau, Mo.; a sister, Bette Dewey of Kansas City, Mo.; seven grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.
Friends may call at Crain Funeral Home in Anna after 5 p.m. today. Masonic rites will be conducted by Lodge 520.
Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Richard Sullins officiating. Burial will be in Anna Cemetery.
