PERRYVILLE -- Leonard A. Cornelius, 83, of Perryville died Friday, May 2, 1997, at Perry Oaks Nursing Center.
He was born Nov. 27, 1913, in Belgique, son of Alphonse and Mary Melton Cornelius. He married Luella Kirn on July 18, 1936, in Belgique and she preceded him in death on Sept. 22, 1988.
He was a farmer, a member of Western Catholic Union, Nativity of the Virgin Mary Parish at Belgique and of Our Lady of Victory Parish at Sereno.
He is survived by three sons, Gerry Cornelius of Perryville, Dale Cornelius of Palatine, Ill., and Robert Cornelius of Alton, Ill.; one daughter, Marie Gerler of Altenburg; one sister, Regenia Bellon of St. Louis; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a sister.
Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday, and from 6:30 a.m. to 9:50 a.m. Tuesday, at the Miller Family Funeral Home in Perryville. A parish wake will be 7 p.m. Monday, and the rosary will be said at 9 a.m. Tuesday, at the funeral home. Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Perryville with the Rev. Francis Agnew officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.
