DEXTER, Mo. -- Leona Vangilder, 85, formerly of Dexter, died Friday, April 13, 2001, at Three Rivers Healthcare South Campus in Poplar Bluff, Mo.
She was born Sept. 14, 1915, in Lafe, Ark., daughter of Robert and Effie Potts White. She and John Vangilder were married Oct. 25, 1947, in Paragould, Ark.
She had lived in Marmaduke, Ark., before moving to Dexter in 1947. She worked as a clerk at the P.N. Hirsch store and was a member of the First General Baptist Church in Dexter.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Billy Pat Wright of Dexter and Clinton Wright of Flint, Mich.; a daughter, Linda Garner of Dexter; two stepdaughters, Erma Lou Hooker and Faye Depriest, both of Paragould; a brother, Loyd White of Paragould; a sister, Geneva Wood of Paragould; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by six brothers and three sisters.
Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. today at Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Revs. Kenneth Biggs and Jeff Vaughn officiating. Burial will be in the Dexter Cemetery.
