OVERLAND PARK, Kansas -- Leona L. Tucker, 96, of Overland Park died Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2021, at Tallgrass Creek Assisted Living in Overland Park.
She was born Jan. 23, 1925, in Stoddard County, Missouri, to Simeon V. and Hattie Dixon Lewis.
She and Charles F. Tucker were married May 16, 1946, at Jackson. He preceded her in death Oct. 30, 2019.
Leona was a 1943 graduate of Bell City (Missouri) High School and was a member of First General Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau. She had been an operator and clerk for Southwestern Bell and was involved with the Telephone Pioneers for many years. She and her husband were definitely a team.
Survivors include a daughter, Kathy (Greg) Best of Stilwell, Kansas; son, Garold (Linda) Tucker of Ponca City, Oklahoma; brother, Tommy Lewis of Springfield, Missouri; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers, Cooper and Wayne Lewis; and three sisters, Dorothy Hoppe, Imogene Templeton and Myrtle Hood.
Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. Sam Ramdial officiating. Burial will be at Cape County Memorial Park in Cape Girardeau.
Memorial contributions may be given to Mid America Teen Challenge.
