Leona Henrietta Grueneberg Popp, 91, of O'Fallon, Mo., died Tuesday, May 27, 2008, at Progress West Health Care Center in St. Charles, Mo.
She was born April 4, 1917, in Cape Girardeau, daughter of George and Emma Schrader Grueneberg. She and Gilbert Popp were married Nov. 17, 1942, in Cape Girardeau. He died Sept. 8, 1987.
Popp was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau. She was a graduate of Central High School. She was an operator with Southwestern Bell several years. She also worked at Buckner-Ragsdale 21 years. She owned and operated The Town Pump with her husband. She had been a lifelong resident of Cape Girardeau until recently moving to St. Louis.
She is survived by two sons, Joe D. Popp and wife Wilma of Marion, Iowa, John G. Popp and wife Kris of St. Louis; a daughter, Marilyn Ann Johnson and husband Michael of Cape Girardeau; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a brother and two sisters.
Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m.
The service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Nathan Burgell officiating. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Trinity Lutheran Church.
