Leon Udaley "L.U." Spell, 82, 367 Edgewood, died Wednesday, May 25, 1994, at St. Francis Medical Center.
He was born Feb. 10, 1912, in Coxburg, Miss., son of Leon Otho and Nettie Ward Harding Spell. He and Christine B. Burrell were married June 24, 1933, in Goodman, Miss. She preceded him in death.
The Spells moved here in 1955. He was employed at Potashnick Construction Inc. many years, and had been vice president. He was a member of Maple Avenue United Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge 24 in Lexington, Miss., Scottish Rite in Greenville, Tenn., Shrine Wahabi Temple of Jackson, Miss., and was corporate representative for Southeast Missouri Contractors Association.
Survivors include a son, Dale Spell of Cape Girardeau; a daughter, Judy Fischer of Villa Ridge, Mo., five brothers, J.U. and Hassel Spell of Lexington, L.O. Spell of Clinton, Miss., Roy and Lamar Spell of Jackson, Miss.; a sister, Nettie Byrd of Lexington; seven grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, seven brothers and a stepmother.
Friends may call at Lorberg Memorial Funeral Chapel from 5-8 p.m. today. A Masonic service will be held at 7.
Friends may also call at Southern Funeral Home in Lexington from 6-8 p.m. Saturday.
Funeral service will be in Southern Chapel at 1 p.m. Sunday. The Rev. Jim Dace will officiate, with burial in Odd Fellows Cemetery at Lexington.
