BENTON, Mo. -- Leon George Halter, 81, of Benton died Monday, Jan. 21, 2002, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Jan. 1, 1921, at Benton, the son of Charles and Emma Schlitt Halter. He married Catherine Enderle on March 9, 1943, at Kelso, Mo.
Leon was a self-employed farmer. He was a member of St. Denis Catholic Church in Benton and the Benton Chamber of Commerce.
He is survived by his wife; a son and daughter-in-law Larry C. and Diane Halter of Benton; two daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and Robert Jugenheimer of Simsbury, Conn., and Diane and John Urhahn of Benton; six grandchildren, Darin Halter, Jennifer Dirnberger, Melanie Heuring, Suzanne Urhahn, Kristin and Rob Jugenheimer; and three great-grandchildren Josh and Andrew Halter and Krista Dirnberger.
Two brothers and a sister preceded him in death.
Friends may call at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Benton from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. There will a parish prayer service at 6:30 p.m.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated by the Rev. Normand Varone at St. Denis Church at 10 a.m. Thursday. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
