Funeral service for Leon Albert Shell, 1716 Cecelia, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel. The Rev. John Owen will officiate, with entombment in Memorial Park Mausoleum. Military rites will be conducted by the American Legion.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 4-8 p.m. today.

Shell, 69, died unexpectedly Saturday, Feb. 5, 1994, while on vacation in Bradenton, Fla.

He was born Sept. 24, 1924, in Greenbriar, son of Benny and Lillie Hindman Shell. He and Kathryn Proffer were married in 1944 in Advance. He later married Maxine Wells June 5, 1971, in Cape Girardeau.

Shell was a graduate of Zalma High School and Southeast Missouri State University.

He was in the insurance business 37 years. He began with the Arnold Roth Agency and later bought it with Bill Kiehne and later Wendel Black and it was known as the First Cape Corp. He also taught at Bell City.

Shell was a member of First Baptist Church, Lions Club, SEMO Boosters Club, Copper Dome Society, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and past commander of American Legion Post.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Robert Shell of Bowling Green, Ky., Rodney Shell of Morehouse; a stepson, Kent Wells of Jackson; a stepdaughter, Lisa Santi of Marble Hill; two sisters, Thelma James of Puxico, Frieda Gray of St. Louis, and seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother.
