PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- Leo D. "Duke" Thompson, 67, died Monday, March 5, 2001, at Perry County Memorial Hospital.
He was born March 1, 1934, at Yount, Mo., son of Leo P. and Ruth Ann Harris Thompson. He and Della M. Dickison were married Dec. 22, 1956, in Hernando, Miss.
Thompson was a farmer. He served on the Whitewater Christian Church Cemetery Board of Trustees, and was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He received the National Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, and Korean Service Medal with two stars.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Nila Burge of Pleasant Hill, Mo.; two sons, Quinton Thompson of McComb, Ohio, Ben Thompson of Perryville; four brothers, Leonard Thompson of Midlothian, Texas, Ralph, Ray and Lester Thompson of Perryville; two sisters, Ruby Johnson of Denison, Texas, Ruth Dodds of Perryville; and 10 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and three brothers.
Friends may call at Miller Family Funeral Home from 4-9 p.m. today, and Friday after 6:30 a.m. A VFW service will be held at 6:30 tonight.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Tommy Fults officiating. Burial will be in Whitewater Christian Cemetery, with military graveside honors by American Legion Post 133.
