PUXICO -- Leo Smith, 80, of Puxico died Tuesday, Feb. 9, 1999, at Christian Northeast Hospital in St. Louis. He was born Sept. 17, 1918, at Dudley, son of Andrew Jackson and Nancy Jane Shelby Smith. He and Wilma Klaffer were married Sept. 16, 1939, at Fisk.

Smith retired as a supervisor with Gould Electric in St. Louis, and later returned to the Puxico area. He was a member of Life Chapel Assembly of God Church, and life member of VFW Post 7822, both in Puxico. He served in the U.S. Army.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Melvin and Donald Smith of St. Louis, Gary Smith of Warrenton; two brothers, Woodrow Smith of Puxico, Vaughn Smith of Poplar Bluff; two sisters, Bernice Harty of Puxico, Norma Martin of St. Louis; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter.

Friends may call at Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Puxico after 6 p.m. today.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Revs. James Cookson and Dan Montgomery officiating. Burial will be in Puxico Cemetery.
