Leo F. Schwab, 89, of Cape Girardeau died Monday, July 2, 2001, at St. Francis Medical Center.
He was born Jan. 15, 1912, at Thebes, Ill., son of Fred and Maude Williams Schwab. He and Leona Birk were married Feb. 16, 1973, in Cape Girardeau. She died April 30, 1998.
Schwab worked for the U.S. Post Office 29 years, retiring in 1973. He then was a custodian at Cape Girardeau Public Schools.
He was a member of Evangelical United Church of Christ, past treasurer of Disabled American Veterans, and past member of Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Schwab served with the U.S. Army during World War II in Northern France, Ardennes, Central Europe and Normandy. He was awarded four Bronze Stars.
Survivors include two stepdaughters, June Lincoln of Dexter, Mo., Sharon Kitchen of Cape Girardeau; a brother, Lester Schwab of Sun City, Ariz.; four stepgrandchildren; and 13 great-stepgrandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, a sister, and three half sisters.
Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Funeral Home after 10 a.m. Friday.
Funeral will be at noon Friday at the funeral home. The Rev. James Caughlan will officiate. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park.
