Leo E. McElrath IV, 49, of Jackson passed away Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2021, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau. He was born Jan. 4, 1972, in Cape Girardeau, son of Leo and Carolyn Clark McElrath III. Growing up, Leo was a member of the DeMolay, Cub Scouts Pack 212 and Boy Scouts Troop 11, where he earned his Eagle Scout by the age of 12. Leo E. McElrath IV, 49, of Jackson passed away Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2021, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Jan. 4, 1972, in Cape Girardeau, son of Leo and Carolyn Clark McElrath III.

Growing up, Leo was a member of the DeMolay, Cub Scouts Pack 212 and Boy Scouts Troop 11, where he earned his Eagle Scout by the age of 12. He graduated from Jackson High School, where he was a member of the cross country team and football team.

Leo joined the National Guard and served in Panama and, later, Operation Iraqi Freedom in Kuwait. He retired from the National Guard with 24 years of service at the rank of master sergeant.

Leo also worked for Orgill for 12 years and for 30 years in transportation and logistics.

Survivors include his father and mother, Leo and Carolyn McElrath of Glen Allen, Missouri; son, Aaron (Stefany) McElrath of Jackson; grandson, Maddox McElrath of Jackson; and girlfriend, Tina Fisher of Jackson.

He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents and brother, Eric.

The family has requested that no flowers be sent.

Visitation and funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson, with the Rev. Randy Shrum officiating.

Arrangements are under the care of Liley Funeral Homes.
