James Lemie Gibbar Jr., 77, of Scott City died Thursday, May 29, 2003, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Jan. 16, 1926, at St. Mary, Mo., son of James Lemie and Birdie Lorene Henderson Gibbar Sr. He and Wanda Louise Cox were married Oct. 12, 1946, in Piggott, Ark.
Gibbar was a chief engineer 32 years with Mid-South Towing of Metropolis. He also worked seven years at Midwest Dairy.
He served in the U.S. Navy from April 26, 1944, to May 23, 1946.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Thomas and Jimmie Gibbar of Cape Girardeau; five brothers, George Gibbar of Crystal City, Mo., Mike and Ray Gibbar of Commerce, Mo., Leon Gibbar of McClure, Ill., Kenneth Gibbar of Jackson; two sisters, Delores Gibbar and Mary Lou Swan of Cape Girardeau; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and a sister.
Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home from 4 to 8 p.m. today.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Cy Smith officiating. Burial will be in Lorimier Cemetery.
