Edna "Lee" Slinkard, 80, of Cape Girardeau passed away Saturday, May 20, 2017, at Fountainbleau Lodge, surrounded by her family. She was born Oct. 17, 1936, in Blomeyer, Missouri, daughter of Ebert E. and Claris E. Tipton Schneider Sr. She and John David Slinkard were married Nov. 20, 1955, at Zion Lutheran Church in Gordonville. He passed away in February 2000...

Edna "Lee" Slinkard, 80, of Cape Girardeau passed away Saturday, May 20, 2017, at Fountainbleau Lodge, surrounded by her family.

She was born Oct. 17, 1936, in Blomeyer, Missouri, daughter of Ebert E. and Claris E. Tipton Schneider Sr. She and John David Slinkard were married Nov. 20, 1955, at Zion Lutheran Church in Gordonville. He passed away in February 2000.

Lee grew up on a farm and was active in 4-H Club. She graduated from Jackson High School in 1954, where she met her husband, John.

She received her practical-nursing license from Saint Francis Hospital School of Practical Nursing in 1956. She was a dedicated nurse all her life and worked at the old Saint Francis Hospital, Perry County Memorial Hospital and was a school nurse at the Oak Ridge School District. "General Lee" finished her career at Southeast Hospital, where she retired in October 2003.

She was a member of the Lutheran faith, and enjoyed gardening and refinishing furniture. She was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew her.

Loving survivors include a son, John David (Tammy) Slinkard of Holland, Michigan; three daughters, Robin (Drew) White of Cape Girardeau, Christy Montgomery of St. Charles, Missouri, and Kelly Slinkard of Cape Girardeau; two brothers, E.E. "Butch" Schneider Jr. of Jackson and Jack (Carolyn) Schneider of Fort Worth, Texas; two sisters, June Borgfield of Jackson and Rose (Howie) Meadows of Manchester, Missouri; a brother-in-law, Jim (Barb) Slinkard of Cape Girardeau; and four sisters-in-law, Wanda Lee (Donnie) Stone of Daisy, Sharon Schneider of Cape Girardeau, Ruth Ann Hobeck of Jackson and Mary Lou Hanners of Jackson.

Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Jacob and Chelsea White, Melanie and Erich Montgomery, Trista and Wesley Anderson, Nickolas Slinkard and Daniel Ard; as well as six great-grandchildren, Henrik, Marlowe, Harrison, Chael, Sam and Ben.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 45 years, John Slinkard; her father- and mother-in-law, Weldon and Amelia Slinkard; a sister-in-law, Sharon Kay Slinkard; and brothers-in-law, Don Borgfield, Gifford Hobeck and Deon Hanners.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. until service time Saturday at St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau.

A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church, with the Rev. Mark Martin officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may take the form of contributions to Crown Hospice or St. Andrew Lutheran Church.
