Lee S. Olson, 93, of Cape Girardeau passed away Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2023, at his home, with family. Lee was born Nov. 26, 1929, in Fort Dodge, Iowa, to Lloyd S. and Lilly V. Lundberg Olson. He and Mary L. McLeod were married March 18, 1957, in LaPorte, Indiana, and celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary earlier this year. She preceded him in death May 1, 2023...

Lee S. Olson, 93, of Cape Girardeau passed away Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2023, at his home, with family.

Lee was born Nov. 26, 1929, in Fort Dodge, Iowa, to Lloyd S. and Lilly V. Lundberg Olson. He and Mary L. McLeod were married March 18, 1957, in LaPorte, Indiana, and celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary earlier this year. She preceded him in death May 1, 2023.

Lee was a 1948 graduate of Illmo-Fornfelt High School, where his 6 foot, 7 inch height helped him lead the basketball team. He was named to the 1940s All-Decade Team of the Southeast Missourian Christmas Tournament.

After high school, Lee started working for Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. (AT&T). He was employed with Southwestern Bell for over 37 years, retiring in 1985. He and Mary then spent 32 years as "Winter Texans", where he enjoyed working with stained glass, volleyball, tennis and golf.

Lee was a member of Lynwood Baptist Church since 1974 and served on numerous committees and as Optimist Church League basketball coach.

He is survived by his son, David (Molly) Olson; daughter, Diane (Paul) Pierantozzi; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a sister, Joan Olson Stout; two sisters-in-law, Della (David) Hatfield and Rebecca Olson; and beloved nieces and nephews.

Lee was preceded in death by his wife, Mary, whom he greatly missed; his parents; and two brothers.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 26, at Fruitland Community Church in Fruitland.

Funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 26, at the church, with the Rev. Mike Parry officiating. Burial will be at Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.

Memorial contributions may be given to Fruitland Community Church, 6040 Highway 61 N. Jackson, MO 63755.

The family would like to thank Crown Hospice for the compassion and care it provided.
