CHARLESTON -- L.C. Townsend Sr., 61, of Charleston died Monday, March 11, 1991 at the Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.
He was born Oct. 27, 1929 in rural Charleston, the son of Robert and Jessie Mae Matthew Townsend.
He was a lifelong resident of Mississippi County and was an Army veteran, serving in the Korean Conflict. He was of the Baptist faith.
He married Ruby Jean Townsend, and she survives.
Also surviving are four sons, Lawrence Charles Townsend Jr., Detroit, Danny Ray Hart and John Townsend and Lawrence Calvin Townsend Jr., all of Charleston, and Caesar Townsend, address unknown; two daughters, Bessie and April Townsend of Charleston; three brothers, Edgar Lee Townsend, Kankakee, Ill., Henry Lee Townsend, St. Louis, Robert Townsend of Berkeley Calif.; five sisters, Bertha Booker, Los Angeles, Martha, Mary, Louisza and LaVern Townsend, all of Charleston; and 11 grandchildren.
One daughter and one sister preceded him in death.
Friends may call Friday from 7-8 p.m. at Sparks Funeral Home in Charleston.
Funeral service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Wiley Reed officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery.
