Layton W. Mayfield, 78, of Cape Girardeau died Tuesday, May 31, 2011, at the Lutheran Home.
He was born June 17, 1932, in Illmo, to Layton and Hazel Mae Shirrell Mayfield. He married Margaret S. McLane on Aug. 15, 1954.
Mayfield was a mechanic with ABF Trucking Co. and was a member of SEMMA model airplane club and Illmo Baptist Church.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Becky (Bill) Shell of Cape Girardeau; and two grandchildren, Bill and Emma Shell.
He was preceded in death by a son, Scott Layton Mayfield, on June 14, 2007; and a brother.
Military graveside rites will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Lightner Cemetery, with the Rev. Ray Oxford officiating.
Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel of Scott City is in charge of arrangements.
