MOUNDS, Ill. — Lawrence W. "Doc" Wilson, 87, of Mounds died Sunday, Aug. 17, 2008, at Anna Veterans Home in Anna, Ill.
He was born Sept. 28, 1920, in Olmsted, Ill., son of George and Melissa Carter Wilson.
Wilson was a graduate of Love Joy High School in Mound City, Ill. He received a bachelor of science degree from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale and a master's degree from Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau.
He taught and coached basketball in Pulaski County more than 40 years and retired from Meridian High School. He was a vending operator many years. He was a member of New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church near Mounds.
Wilson served in the U.S. Army from June 1943 to March 1946.
Survivors include a son, Capt. Paul Wilson of Cape Girardeau.
He was preceded in death by two sisters and six brothers.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. to service time Monday at New Bethel Church near Mounds.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the church, with the Rev. Donnell Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Mound City National Cemetery with full military honors by Pulaski County VFW Post 8891.
Williams Funeral Home in Charleston, Mo., is in charge of arrangements.
