Lawrence Pattengill

FLORISSANT, Mo. -- Lawrence Pattengill, 87, of Florissant passed away Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2012.

He was born Nov. 17, 1924, in Cape Girardeau, to W.C. and Nellie Pattengill. He and Nola B. Garner were married Oct. 15, 1943.

His early years were spent in Southeast Missouri where he graduated from Benton, Mo., High School in 1942.

Pattengill was a veteran of World War II, serving with Troop C 88th Cavalry in Europe, earning three Bronze Stars and a Good Conduct Medal.

After retirement as a pipefitter at General Motors, "Pat" and Nola spent a lot of their time volunteering, including mission work with Campers on Mission, Budd's Builders and Missourians for Missions. He was a member of Salem Baptist Church in Florissant, where he served as a deacon, trustee and missions director. He will be remembered as a man who was willing to help anyone in need.

Survivors include three children, Carolyn (Allan) Crader of Shell Knob, Mo., Larry (Susan) Pattengill of Hartsville, S.C., and Connie (Bill) Light of St. Louis; four grandchildren, Nanette McCroskey, Craig Crader, Lara Mullen and Matthew Bunch; two stepgrandchildren, Suzanne Toups and Stephen Toups; four great-grandchildren, Gabrielle Mullen, Collin and Kenzie Crader, and Andrew Pattengill; siblings, Alice Hopper and Evelyn Zimmerman of Cape Girardeau, Marie Nettles of Yuma, Ariz., Ruby Hitt of Oak Ridge and Lee Pattengill of Sikeston, Mo.; many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter and seven brothers and sisters.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Hutchens Mortuary, 675 Graham Road, Florissant.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Salem Baptist Church, 19715 Old Jamestown Road, Florissant. Graveside rites will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Cape County Memorial Park in Cape Girardeau.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to Missouri Baptist Children's Home or charity of donor's choice.
