COBDEN, Ill. -- Lawrence Stanley "Jim" Nance, 77, of Cobden died Friday, May 2, 2008, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. He was born June 26, 1930, at Alto Pass, Ill., son of Charles Stanley and Louise Canada Nance. He and Eva Mae Cobb were married June 28, 1952, at Piggott, Ark...

COBDEN, Ill. -- Lawrence Stanley "Jim" Nance, 77, of Cobden died Friday, May 2, 2008, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born June 26, 1930, at Alto Pass, Ill., son of Charles Stanley and Louise Canada Nance. He and Eva Mae Cobb were married June 28, 1952, at Piggott, Ark.

Nance was a member of Makanda Baptist Church and retired from Southern Gas Co. in Carobondale, Ill., as a truck driver.

Survivors include his wife of Cobden; four sons, Larry Nance, Jeffrey Nance and Neal Nance, all of Cobden, and David Nance of Vergennes, Ill.; a sister, Wilma Dean Heern of Makanda, Ill.; two brothers, K.O. Nance of Anna, Ill., and Roscoe Nance of Cobden; 14 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother.

Friends may call from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday at Rendleman and Hileman Funeral Home in Cobden.

Funeral will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Gilbert Gee officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
