COLUMBIA -- Lawrence "Wayne" Hill, 81, of Columbia, formerly of Cape Girardeau, died Saturday, Feb. 6, 1999, at Harry S. Truman Memorial V.A. Hospital in Columbia. COLUMBIA -- Lawrence "Wayne" Hill, 81, of Columbia, formerly of Cape Girardeau, died Saturday, Feb. 6, 1999, at Harry S. Truman Memorial V.A. Hospital in Columbia.

He was born Dec. 10, 1917, in Chillicothe, son of Hugh Virgil and Lena Casel Waddle Hill. He and Lois Edna Ehman were married Aug. 8, 1943, in Kansas City.

Hill was a graduate of Chillicothe schools and the Chillicothe Business College. He was stationed in the South Pacific and served in the Navy during World War II.

He had lived in Kansas City, St. Louis and Cape Girardeau where he had been employed as an office and sales manager for television stations. He was one of the first employees for TV-17 in Columbia, where he worked as a sales manager.

He also had worked as a real estate broker prior to retiring in 1980.

He was a past master of the St. Marks Masonic Lodge of AF&AM, a member of the Scottish Rite in St. Louis with KCCH honors and a member of the Twilight Lodge 114 of AF&AM in Columbia. He was also a member of the Eastern Star, Boone Chapter 290 OES, the Gideons International and American Legion Post 202.

He was a member of the Community United Methodist Church of Columbia.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Barbara Lynne Hill of Columbia; a son, Richard Lawrence Hill of Weslaco, Texas; a brother, Carl Eugene Hill of Julian, Calif.; a sister, Miriam Louise Stelplugh of Wheeling; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday at Parker Funeral Service in Columbia.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the Revs. Susan Cox Johnson, Jay Ketchie, Eugene Robl and Thomas Adams officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Columbia.
