Lawrence Eyler, 88, of Cape Girardeau passed away Thursday, April 18, 2024, at Life Care Center.
He was born Jan. 16, 1936, in Fort Madison, Iowa, to the late Keith C. and Florence Jenkins Eyler.
Lawrence grew up in Burlington, Iowa. He entered the U.S. Army in 1955 and, after his duty, he graduated from Western Illinois University with a bachelor’s degree and played football for the Leathernecks as a running back. He went on to live a full life, he had many businesses along the way. He retired as a physical education teacher in Semi Valley, California. He enjoyed traveling and had a passion for motorcycles.
Larry was a member of the Widows Sons Motorcycle Club and a lifetime member of the Elks in California. He loved and cherished his dogs Ursa, Brandie and Romi.
Lawrence is survived by a son, William Liley of Cape Girardeau; daughters, Kristin Eyler of Simi Valley and Laura Liley of Cape Girardeau; and two grandchildren, Elizabeth Coryell and Ryan Morrise.
A memorial visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 24, at McCombs Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau. Military honors will be provided at 6 p.m. by Missouri Honors Team.
The family asks that memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
