DEXTER, Mo. -- Lawrence E. Carson, 86, of Dexter died Sunday, June 24, 2001, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston, Mo.
He was born Sept. 24, 1914, in Dyersburg, Tenn., son of Eldra and Jennie Flame Carson. He and Norma A. Pippins were married Dec. 23, 1933, at Bernie, Mo. She died Sept. 9, 1990.
Carson lived in Arkansas and Illinois before moving to Dexter in 1978. He worked at Elgin Casket Co., and operated the street sweeping machine at Dexter from 1978-97. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Dexter.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Survivors include a son, Richard Carson of Bloomfield, Mo.; two daughters, June Patterson of Jefferson City, Mo., Peggy Burton of Dandridge, Tenn.; four brothers, Pete Carson of Dexter, Dawsey Carson of Poplar Bluff, Mo., Carl Carson of Florida, Lloyd Carson of Arizona; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, an infant son, and a brother.
Friends may call at Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Dexter from 5-8 p.m. today.
Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Bob Wiggins officiating. Burial will be in Bernie Cemetery at Bernie.
