WENTZVILLE, Mo. -- Lawrence E. Burress, 94, of Wentzville and formerly of Jackson, passed away Monday, May 20, 2019.

He was the beloved husband of the late Helen R. Samples Burress; loving father of Annetta (Gary) Godier; cherished grandfather of Scott and Bryan Godier; treasured great-papaw of Christian, Kayleigh, Trinity and Nathan; and dear brother, uncle and friend.

Lawrence was born Feb. 10, 1925, to the late James F. and Allene Maxedon Burress Sr. He was also preceded in death by his siblings, Evangeline, James Jr., Geraldine, Jo Nelle and Henry.

Lawrence attained distinction as a World War II veteran who proudly and honorably served in the U.S. Navy between 1943 and 1949. He treasured his memories and participation in the Greater St. Louis Honor Flight to Washington, D.C.

Following his retirement from the Ferguson Florissant School District, he enjoyed gardening, traveling and spending time with his family and his grandchildren, whom he adored. Lawrence was a devoted husband and father who was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.

Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday at Pitman Funeral Home, 1545 Wentzville Parkway in Wentzville.

Funeral will follow at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will take place at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Russell Heights Cemetery, 435 S. Farmington Road in Jackson.

Memorials may be made in Lawrence's name to Greater St. Louis Honor Flight.
