KELSO, Mo. -- Laverne Welter Rosenquist, 91, of Kelso passed away Monday, Oct. 1, 2018, at Chateau Girardeau. KELSO, Mo. -- Laverne Welter Rosenquist, 91, of Kelso passed away Monday, Oct. 1, 2018, at Chateau Girardeau.

Laverne, a lifelong resident of Kelso, was born Dec. 29, 1926, to Ed and Ella Pfefferkorn Welter.

She attended St. Augustine Grade School in Kelso and graduated from St. Mary's High School in Cape Girardeau, after which she attended Cape Girardeau Business School, studying bookkeeping.

Laverne worked at First National Bank in Cape Girardeau until becoming a full-time mother to her three sons. With her young family, Laverne enjoyed camping, boating and canoeing. She was active in St. Augustine church and school and served on the Riverside Regional Library Board for several years. As the boys grew older, Laverne re-entered the workforce, working in accounting at Southeast Hospital and then at Mid America Hotels/Drury Restaurants, where she remained for 36 years until her retirement at the age of 82.

Laverne enjoyed travel and cherished her tours of Europe, especially her trip to Rome.

Loving survivors include her sister, Lolly Robert of Kelso; two sons, Roger (Mary) Rosenquist of St. Mary, Missouri, and Chris (Karen) Rosenquist of Cape Girardeau; 11 grandchildren, Kara LeGrand, Robby Rosenquist, Chris Rosenquist, Ryan Rosenquist, Nathan Rosenquist, Megan Ressel, Matthew Rosenquist, Elizabeth Inman, Madeline Rosenquist, Michael Rosenquist and Brad Smith; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Laverne was preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Ella Welter; her sister, Doris Smith; a son, Carl Rosenquist; and a granddaughter, Mackenzie Smith Robinson.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., with parish prayers at 7 p.m., today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Kelso, with the Rev. Michael Casteel officiating. Burial will be at St. Augustine Catholic Church Cemetery in Kelso.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Augustine Parish in Kelso.
