PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- Laverne Mary Buchheit, 87, of Perryville died Thursday, March 24, 2011, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

She was born July 16, 1923, in Belgique, Mo., daughter of August William and Ida Christine Kirn Berkbuegler. She and Herbert Buchheit were married Jan. 5, 1942.

Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Betty (Gary) Statler of St. Charles, Mo., Anna (Kenny) Krauss of Perryville, Glenda Buchheit of Maplewood, Mo.; a sister, Lillian Regelsperger of Festus, Mo.; a brother, John Berkbuegler of Mexico, Mo.; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren, two great-stepgrandchildren; and two great-great-stepgrandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a great-grandson; and three sisters, Sylvia Buchheit, Frances Cissell and Bernetta Beeves.

Buchheit had worked at International Shoe Co., Prince Gardner and St. Vincent's Cafeteria. She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, American Legion Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary, the women quilters at St. Vincent's, Western Catholic Union and Square Dance Club.

Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. today and 6:30 to 9:30 a.m. Monday at Young and Sons Funeral Home. An American Legion Auxiliary wake will be held at 6:30 p.m. today, with VFW Auxiliary wake at 6:45 and Catholic wake at 7. The rosary will be recited at 8:15 a.m. Monday.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Vincent de Paul Church, with the Rev. Milton Ryan officiating. Burial will be in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis.

Memorials are preferred to St. Vincent de Paul school system, or American Cancer Society or your own choice.
