Laverl Ussery

Laverl Lee Ussery, 69, of Cape Girardeau passed away Thursday, Oct. 20, 2016, at his home.

He was born Nov. 27, 1946, in Oriole, the son of Everett and Gusta Ilene McClard Ussery. He and Lana Lunsford were married Sept. 8, 1964.

Laverl was employed 49 years in commercial barge traffic and was a respected riverboat captain. He adored his family and loved to travel.

Loving survivors include his wife of 52 years, Lana Ussery; four daughters, Sherry (Boyd) Edmonds and Lera Ussery, both of Oriole, Cindy Ussery of Wittenberg, Missouri, and Alana (Jeffrey) Dillingham of Cape Girardeau; a sister, Clara Farrow of Oriole; 16 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Charles Ussery; and a sister, Dorothy Farrow.

The visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of service Monday at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in

Jackson.

The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, with Boyd Edmonds officiating. Interment will be in Russell Heights Cemetery in

Jackson.
