GRANITE CITY, Ill. -- Larry Kynion, 74, died Sunday, Feb. 18, 2018, at Gateway Regional Medical Center in Granite City.
Larry was born Sept. 26, 1943, and lived in Granite City most of his life. He was an active member of the Granite City disabilities community for many years and participated in bowling leagues and Special Olympics. He worked at Tri-Cities Association for Handicapped Inc.
Larry loved spending time with friends and family, listening to bluegrass music, watching baseball and cheering for his beloved St. Louis Cardinals.
Larry was a man with a big heart, an endearing personality and a contagious sense of humor. He will be dearly missed.
Larry is survived by his loving aunt, Alice Hopper of Ballwin, Missouri; his cousins, Tammy (David) Wilson of Clinton, Illinois, Nancy Kynion of Lancaster, Ohio, Tim (Laura) Kynion of Leadville, Colorado, and Ginger (Greg) Godwin of North Richland Hills, Texas; and a host of other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Lester and Hazel Kynion.
Special thanks to the staff at The Fountains for the loving care and friendship Larry enjoyed during his seven-and-a-half-year stay.
Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. Friday at Irwin Chapel on Maryville Road in Granite City.
Funeral will follow at 1 p.m., with the Rev. Dennis Mooney officiating. Larry will be laid to rest next to his parents at the Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to Tri-Cities Area Association for Handicapped Inc., P.O. Box 1681, Granite City, IL 62040, and which may be accepted at the funeral home.
