Lana Marie Sciortino, 72, of Cape Girardeau met her heavenly father while surrounded by family Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2015, at Heartland Care and Rehab.

She was born Sept. 15, 1942, in New Madrid, Missouri, to Henry and Lucille Simpson Brewer. She and Mike Sciortino were married July 11, 1965, in New Madrid.

Lana was of the Methodist faith. She graduated from New Madrid High School and received a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Southeast Missouri State University in 1964. Lana taught first grade several years in Marble Hill, Missouri, and then taught at several elementary schools in the Cape Girardeau area. She worked for Dr. Thomas Sparkman for more than 30 years. She enjoyed her job and loved the patients and camaraderie with her co-workers. Her infectious laugh was recognized by all and she continued to make people smile even in times of her own decline.

Survivors include her loving husband of 50 years; two daughters, Leighanne (Dale) Collier of Cape Girardeau and Susan (Brent) Pfeiffer of Jackson; a brother, Bill Brewer of St. Louis; a sister, Betty (Norland) Tentschert of St. Louis; and three grandchildren, Ethan Collier, Johnathan Pfeiffer and Graysen Marie Pfeiffer.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Jim Brewer.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.

A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Gerald Collier officiating. Entombment will be at Cape County Memorial Park Mausoleum in Cape Girardeau.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Alzheimer's Association.
