HAMPTON, Va. -- Kevin T. Mattson, 47, of Hampton, formerly of Linden, Michigan, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, Nov. 24, 2018, at his home. HAMPTON, Va. -- Kevin T. Mattson, 47, of Hampton, formerly of Linden, Michigan, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, Nov. 24, 2018, at his home.

Kevin was born June 7, 1971, in Flint, Michigan, to Thomas and Frances. He moved to Linden in fourth grade to live with his father and second mother and graduated from Linden High School in June 1989. While a student, he played junior varsity football and was on the golf team. He was also an active member of the junior golf program at Spring Meadows Country Club for several years. He attended Ferris State University and Baker College in Flint.

He moved to his mother's hometown of Scott City in 1994, remaining there until he moved to Hampton in 2012 to live near his sister, Pam, and her family. He loved fishing, watching football with his friends and spending time with his beloved cat, Buster.

Kevin was a sweet and gentle man, and he loved his family deeply. He will be greatly missed by his friends and family, who love him so much.

He is survived by his loving parents, Thomas (Jan) Mattson of Florida, formerly of Linden, and Frances (Harmon) Presswood of Missouri. He is also survived by his son, Maxwell Douglas of California; sisters, Pamela Larned of Virginia, Regina Hagen of California and Christina (Jason) Jurgens of Missouri: and brother, Ronnie (Eniye) Hagen of Florida. He leaves a large, blended family of nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was predeceased by his sister, Erin Mattson, and grandparents, William and Claire Prass, Richard and Lillian Mattson and David and Ruth Epley.

A memorial Mass will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church on Ritter Drive in Cape Girardeau, with the Rev. Rick Jones officiating. Interment of cremains will be at a later date.
