ADVANCE, Mo. -- Kent Adolph Hurt, 77, of San Leandro, Calif., passed away Friday, Jan. 25, 2013, because of heart complications.

He was born Dec. 21, 1935, in Advance, to Basy and Dolly Palmer Hurt. He graduated from Advance High School and shortly after moved to California to work as a mechanic.

Kent loved working with cars and being a mechanic. He worked more than 40 years as a mechanic in his own shop and for Chrysler. When he retired in 1995, he moved back to Missouri to reconnect with his family and friends. Then in 2001 he moved back to California.

He enjoyed many hobbies, sports, wildlife and reading, but he especially loved these two -- No. 1: Cars, be it NASCAR, rebuilding cars from scratch or being a member of the 300 Club, where he held numerous board positions and won many car shows throughout the years, and No. 2: country music, especially after he retired and started playing in Uncle Fuzz's band, where he learned to play the guitar and sing.

He was a loving father, grandfather, uncle and friend to all. We thank God for the gift of his life and the blessing of the time we had with him.

A memorial will be scheduled in Missouri at a later date when all the family can join together.

Correspondences may be sent to Lisa Hum, 6348 Newton Court, Arvada, CO 80003, or online condolences may be left on Kent Hurt's memorial tribute at www.yourtribute.com.
