MOUND CITY, Ill. -- Kenneth Edward "Kenny" Lockard, son of Evelyn Lockard, of Mound City died Monday, Sept. 6, 2010, in St. Anthony's Hospital in St. Louis. He was born on his mother's first wedding anniversary on Sept. 17, 1945, in Cairo, Ill.

He graduated from Mound City Community High School in 1963 and attended the University of Illinois at Urbana on a four-year academic scholarship. He graduated in 1967.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1969 and served a tour in Vietnam, 1970-1971. After his discharge, he joined the Illinois National Guard and served with the Cairo unit.

Kenny spent approximately 10 years working in various programs of Shawnee Development Council under the supervision of Sarah Jane Clarke. He later worked as veterans' representative for the Illinois State Department of Unemployment Compensation.

For the past 20 years he was a partner in Pulaski County Abstract Co. and an issuing agent for Chicago Title Insurance Co. and later for First American Title Insurance Co.

Survivors include his mother, Evelyn Lockard; first cousins, Wayne (Joanne) Lockard of New Melle, Mo., and Marilyn Lockard of St. Louis; his maternal aunt, Dorothy Lockard Burke of Boca Raton, Fla.; and aunt by marriage, Barbara Lockard of St. Louis.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, the Rev. and Mrs. H.E. Lockard, and his maternal uncle, Tilman Lockard.

He enjoyed a special relationship with Jared Hinman and his family, and "The Hazelwood Kids," Jessica, Priscilla, Phillip, Jewelia and Joshua.

No visitation will be held. The graveside service will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 10, 2010, at the Mound City National Cemetery, with the Rev. Larry Miller and the Rev. Roy Wall officiating. Kenny joined Shiloh Baptist Church as a young boy.
