Kenneth W. Hartle, 76, of Cape Girardeau died of lung cancer Thursday, Sept. 25, 1997, at his home.

He was born April 6, 1921, at Sedgewickville, son of Jesse Monroe and Shabie Sophia Niswonger Hartle. He and Doris E. Friese were married Nov. 18, 1950, in Cape Girardeau.

Hartle had been a self-employed carpenter in the St. Louis and Cape Girardeau areas. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and Altenthal-Joerns American Legion Post 158 in Jackson, VFW Post 3838 in Cape Girardeau, and 95th Infantry Division Association.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and received the Good Conduct Medal, Bronze Service Stars, and Victory Medal.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Carole Schwab of St. Charles; a sister, Lillian Seabaugh of Jackson; and a grandson.

Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel from 4-8 p.m. Sunday.

Funeral service will be at the chapel at 1:30 p.m. Monday. The Rev. Robert Henrichs will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park, with military rites conducted by VFW Post 3838.
