Kenneth E. "Kenny" Askew, 85, of Cape Girardeau died Monday, March 11, 2013, at the Missouri Veterans Home.

He was born Feb. 14, 1928, in Cape Girardeau to Jack and Zora Anderson Askew. He and Rosemary Toten were married July 10, 1949, in Piggott, Ark. She preceded him in death Feb. 13, 2011.

Kenny served his country in the U.S. Navy from July 1946 to July 1948 aboard the USS Kearsage in the North Atlantic.

He was a sales representative with Brown and Williamson Tobacco Co. for 30 years. He was a member of Bethany Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau. He was proud of his garden, especially his sweet potatoes. He liked to hang out at Hardee's over a cup of coffee.

Survivors include a son, Kenneth (Connie) Askew Jr. of Eden Prairie, Minn., and their children Colin (fiancee Kim Green) Askew of Fargo, N.D., and Gretchen Askew of Eden Prairie; a daughter, Debbie (Pete) Harris of Cape Girardeau and their children Stephanie (Patrick) Siebert of Wakefield, Kan., and Brian (fiancee Alina Gheorghian) Harris of Cape Girardeau; a sister, Helen Allen of Rockford, Ill.; and two great-grandchildren, Jacob Siebert of Wakefield and Sophie Rose Askew of Fargo.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; a brother, Bill Askew; and a sister, Imogene Withrow.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with Dr. Shawn Wasson and the Rev. Donny Ford officiating. Entombment will be in Cape County Memorial Park Mausoleum with full military rites by Missouri Honor Guard.

Memorial contributions may be given to Bethany Baptist Church, Missouri Veterans Home, or the Alzheimer's Association.
