Katie Stroud Hopkins, 75, of Grand Prairie, Texas, formerly of Jackson, died Monday, Sept. 5, 2005, at Arlington, Texas.
She was born May 26, 1930, in West Point, Miss.
Hopkins was a 1948 graduate of Jackson High School, where she was a drum majorette. She moved to Texas after graduation. Hopkins was a member of the Eastern Star 219 of Grand Prairie, where she served as past matron and held various state appointments. She was a member of the Soroptimist International of Grand Prairie. Hopkins was a longtime real estate agent and past president of the Grand Prairie Board of Realtors, past president of Women's Council of Realtors and received Realtor of the year award. She also worked for American Airlines. Hopkins served as president of the chamber of commerce and was chamber of commerce woman of the year in 1989. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Grand Prairie.
Survivors include five children, Veronica Hopkins, Ronald Hopkins, Gary Hopkins, Elmer Hopkins and Kathryn Ellis; two brothers, Elmer Stroud and Raleigh Stroud; 10 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Services were held in Grand Prairie with burial in Southland Memorial Park.
Bean-Massey-Burge Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
