Kathryn "Kay" Rhoads, 80, of Cape Girardeau died Sunday, March 16, 2003, at the Lutheran Home. She was born Jan. 19, 1923, in Sedalia, Mo., daughter of Thomas O. and Golda Catherine Bishop Herrick. She and M.E. "Dusty" Rhoads were married June 19, 1947, at Sedalia. He died Feb. 12, 1989...

Kathryn "Kay" Rhoads, 80, of Cape Girardeau died Sunday, March 16, 2003, at the Lutheran Home.

She was born Jan. 19, 1923, in Sedalia, Mo., daughter of Thomas O. and Golda Catherine Bishop Herrick. She and M.E. "Dusty" Rhoads were married June 19, 1947, at Sedalia. He died Feb. 12, 1989.

Mrs. Rhoads was raised and educated in Sedalia. She graduated from Smith-Cotton High School, and received a bachelor of science degree in education from the University of Missouri-Columbia.

She was co-founder, co-owner and teacher from 1954 to 1973 of K-Jo Kindergarten in Sedalia. She taught English as a second language in the Adult Basic Education Department at State Fair Community College from 1969 to 1994. She touched over 5,000 children and young adults in her 50 years of teaching.

She was a member of First Christian Church in Sedalia, Elks Auxiliary, and the Knife and Fork Club.

Survivors include two daughters, Rhonda K. Cuba of Cape Girardeau, Jaynee S. Konrad of O'Fallon, Mo.; a longtime companion and friend, Everett Stumpf of Sedalia; two brothers, Myron T. Herrick of Lee's Summit, Mo., Joseph Herrick of St. Louis; two sisters, Virginia Foster of Sarasota, Fla., Bonnie McClain of Homasassa, Fla.; and six grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and four brothers, Harvey C. Herrick, Warren D. Herrick, Eugene Herrick and Virgil B. Herrick.

Friends may call at McLaughlin Funeral Chapel in Sedalia from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.

The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at First Christian Church. The Rev. Russell Willoughby will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Dustin Konrad, Matt Cuba, Rob Cuba, Kyle Herrick, Tyler Cuba and Mark Callis.

Memorials may be made to Notre Dame High School Education Fund Foundation.
